Health and Safety Obligations

Your Responsibility
for Workplace Safety

In Australia, the law states there are things workers must do to look after their own health and safety while at work.

While at work you must:

  • Take reasonable care for your safety, and for the safety of those you are working with.
  • Comply with any reasonable instruction given by the host employer, so far as you are able to perform the task safely.
  • Follow all reasonable policies and procedures relating to health or safety at the workplace.

It’s important for you to know that you have the right to ask questions about the tasks you are assigned and to refuse to work if you believe it is unsafe.

If you are uncomfortable discussing these concerns with your host employer, you can reach out to your Connect Talent Field Officer regarding any health and safety issues.

Additionally, there will be a designated person at the workplace who can assist you with any questions about your health and safety.
